Take three
seb187, 08:24h
I had a pretty tight schedule during the last few days, so i didn't really get to write a new blog entry for you. I don't know where to start so i'm just gonna start with the light show a few days ago. It took place on parliament hill, and the lights where projected on the center block/peacetower. Unfortunately, i for forgot to bring my camera so i could really make pictures of it (as you know the flash light of my iphone sucks). The light show itself was actually pretty cool. The effects weren't that impressive, but the light show was like a little film about the history of Canada, so i was able to extend my sophistication :p After the light show (it only lasted for half an hour), we went to Dominic's place (that's the other guy from darmstadt) as he threw a barbecue party. He lives in Vanier, which is the most fucked up neighborhood in Ottawa, so we took a cab there as it is recommended not to walk through that district at night. Cab rides are really cheap (unlike the one we encountered in Mannheim do you remember lol ;)), so it was all good. The party was nothing special, just sitting around, talking, chilling and stuff, but it was quite nice.
On the following day i went to that football game of the university team, which was the opening match of the season. In case you haven't heard it yet, i have to tell you that i've never seen people of a country that are more patriotic than Canadians. Lots of ppl over here told me that, but actually seeing their patriotism was kinda funny. So you know, the game was not really big, there were like maybe 200 people from the University to support the team. And still there were people walking on the pitch with the Canadian flag in their hand and a girl singing their national anthem :D on a college game...
which was not on a high level (you know i'm not into football, but i guess they are not that talented if they can hardly even catch the ball or just throw the ball into the opponents hands :D) So the first 15 minutes were actually really cool because there was a really cool atmosphere, but after that it just got boring, there are just too many breaks. At least you received on the entrance bags that contained chewing gums, hair gel and cereals and the hot dogs they sold there were also really good. So all in all, it was a cool North American experience :D The game lasted for four hours so i felt really exhausted afterwards and took a nap before we went to that meet and greet party for international students. I actually told you everything about that evening, it was quite nice getting to know new people, however, we noticed that we still don't know so many people :D But i guess it's going to get better.
I walk by the soccer pitch on my way to the gym and there was a game going on of the Ottawa U soccer team and without being arrogant, they really suck :D we are planning to get a team together and challenge them, this is gonna be fun because they seem to take it very seriously but they are really not good at all, this might be fun i hope it's gonna work :)
Today with kind of funny with my old landlord but also exhausting at the same time. Turns out that she studied in Princeton and afterwards at some other University which was for her study field of international relations better than Harvard (that's what she said). I think she really knows a lot of stuff that is going on in the world and knows much more than a regular person, given that she apparently knows lots of famous and influential peoples (my two roommates where looking for an internship ( they're studying law) so she mailed her old friend, who happens to be a former law professor in oxford if he can organize something lol). She's actually also really philosophical, the only problem is she is talking like 1 sentence in 1 hour (she talks very slowly), so you really have to take your time if you want to have a conversation with her :D Today we've also went to the market in Ottawa downtown and there is this bakery which Barack Obama randomly visited during his stay in Ottawa in 2009 without announcing it before, so in this bakery where pictures everywhere of him when he was at this place (they gave him cookies for free haha. I tasted those cookies, he was actually a lucky guy, they taste really great :D).
Sorry that the pictures are upside down, my laptop is really slow since i am here, haven't figured out yet what's the reason for that. So, this was my week, gotta get up tomorrow at half 7 because one of my courses got rescheduled and now it is on Mondays at 8:30 -.- :D shyze.
Hope it was fun for you to read it, i sort of screwed up lots of sentences because it's really late and my english's getting worse and worse. I really should go to sleep now :)
The next blog entry will be online soon, so stick around :D love u xx

Take 2
seb187, 16:23h
Here comes the second entry as requested :D
Yesterday, something really shitty happened. A dead racoon lay on the street in front of my house, apparently someone hit it with his car :( poor little guy. The party for graduate students last night was boring, as there wasn't even music (it took place in some kind of bar/restaurant) and they were playing some kind of quiz... i really hope not all grad students are that boring :D So we just made plans for today and went back to bed :)
In the afternoon, as i already told you, we've been to the mall and on parliament hill, both are located downtown. Regarding the latter, however, there was garbage collection going on, so their vehicles kind of destroyed my pictures :D gotta go there again some day. Also, like at every popular signs, there were loads of asian people walking around which made it kind of hard to get good shots as they were crowded around the famous sights :D I took lots of pictures, but because of the mentioned facts, they weren't so good, i will take new ones and send them to you. You got already the ones i'm on.
At the mall, clothes are cheaper as in Germany, but only if they are on sale. I might have to go there next week to get a jacket (i think i'm gonna buy a fleece first, i was told that it hardly even rains in Canada, so that should be fine).
Afterwards, we ate a Canadian specialty called "Beavertails"(lol). It kind of looks like a Schnitzel :D it's basically a baked good, with cinnamon and sugar on top, it was actually really delicious, but it might be better to eat it in winter. There you go with the picture:
The "party" in the evening started at 7pm. As you know, i wanted to take a nap first, which i did. However, i didn't wake up before half past 8, so i met up with the other guys before at like 9. Little did i know, the party only lasted until 10pm :D (what kind of party is that anyway?!) So we arrived there at like 9:30pm and apparently they were playing their quiz the entire evening, kind of boring. I really don't think we've missed much. That guy Dominic from Germany actually invited me to that party and he wasn't even there -.-
So i went to bed, and fell asleep while thinking about how cute you are and how lucky i am having a girlfriend like you :) (hey, i'm starting to think positive, see that?) :)
Today's your last day in Germany, make sure that you put everything important in your suitcase and be nice to your mother !!! :)
PS: I'm planning to send you an email the pics from Croatia, you might get them later or tomorrow or so, you can then forward them to your mother :)
Love you xx

First Blog Entry
seb187, 07:56h
Hey cutie :-) i finally managed to create a blog for you, i hope you will enjoy it. For some reason i started to write it in English i just noticed, maybe because i was speaking in English all day long. So if you don't mind, i'm just going to continue to write this blog in English, that might help me to improve my English skills. If there are things you don't understand, just ask me to translate it in German for you :D ;-) jk...
Now let me continue to tell you some stuff about my day. As we skyped earlier, there's really not so much to tell you, except of the fact that the burger restaurant was actually really delicious and it was comparatively cheap, too. However, i have to say that i don't really like the way how the final bill is created in restaurants over here. The price of the food you actually eat does not include the taxes, so at the end, 13% of the money you spend on your food will be added to the bill. Also, you HAVE to tip the waiters with like 15-20% of the bill. So as you might see, it's really getting quite expensive every time you go out to eat something.
I'm going to go to sleep now. As i don't have any courses on Wednesdays, i will do all the remaining organizational stuff tomorrow morning. Also, i wanted to go to the mall and visit parliament hill, which is like the only actual side in Ottawa (besides the Rideau canal which freezes in winter).
Now let me get to the pictures i haven't shown you yet. I saw that poster in paris at the gare du l'est, and i had to think about you because of the pug. So i figured i'll post it here ;)
Also, here's a picture of the bed we had to sleep in in paris :D
The next pictures illustrate how my neighbourhood looks like. The streets are really wide, like in usa, but the houses looks kind of British, don't they?(I'm not quite sure about that :D)
These are all pictures i took so far, there will be more pictures online tomorrow. This is the only side with allowed me to write a blog, i didn't really had the time so far to look for better sites. Some key words are somehow marked and are apparently used for advertising from the website is used to create the blog. I'm sorry for that... just let me now if it annoys you, then i'm gonna look for another way to do a blog for you :)
Just wanted to tell you that it really helped me to see you on skype today, i feel much better now. Always love to see your face and speak to you :-* <3
